2000 Jetta HELP!

The smell is from a waxy anti-rust coating put on the insides of the doors, etc. that releases a gas when it gets hot (and sometimes even melts).

Your only hope is to park it in the shade/keep it cool as much as possible.

funny cause the mk4s were galvanized steel...

and all of these reasons are why i sold my gti when I did...65k and it blew apart the valve cover and pcv system, resulting in oil everywhere...and as some of you witnessed, it smoked worse than an old diesel. I think it was caleb who asked me if my car was actually a diesel

pretty sure any first model year would be the same as buying a 1984 cherokee...

Does anyone here own one of these fucking things. I could really use some help setting the windshild wiper linkage to the motor. The nut that holds the whole thing together fell off last week. Will and I got the thing back together however now the wipers dont run in the right sequence. They go half way up the windshield then slam back on the base of the cawling(i dont know how to fucking spell it). I have read that the arm has to be tightened down to the motor when the arm is at the exact angle or the timing and sequence will be off.

If anyone has a jetta could you please let me know at what angle the freaking arm is when the wipers are off. If not then if anyone knows where I can find this infromation it will be very helpful. I have searched and searched. I have also asked 3 other VW forums, but for VW Jetta if your not asian or race in some fast and furious club no one will answer you.

It continues to rain every fucking day so I really need to fix this before i kick out the fucking windshield and drive with a snorkel and tear offs.

not to miss the original point of this thread but.... did you ever think to take the wiper arms off... turn car on turn wipers on #1 (with no wipers attached) wait for them to return to home position?...and then turn car off?

that doesnt show the orientation of how the arm sits on the motor unfortunately..all that does is tell you the motor is at native position.

if i did, the jettas wipers would undoubtedly come apart, leaving me with a bottle of rain-x as my only deterrent against the rain

and id still prob smell like crayons afterwards

Show me a credible source that claims every inch of the mk4 unibodies (including interior of doors/hatches/etc.) were galvanized. I'm calling bullshit, but feel free to call me out.

Upon further research, there is a possibility the smell comes from sound deadening originally sprayed on the floor heating up as well.

So, my "keep it cool" stance remains.
