Thank God my mother got rid of her Jetta when she did. Her last act oif defiance towards that car was accidently dump 8 quarts of oil into the motor. I walked outside one day and she looked at me and asked how many quarts of oil the motor was supose to hold. I then asked Why she was putting motor oil in the vehicle, and much to my surprise, she read the dipstick and found it to be low. Then decided to fucking put 8 quarts into the motor when it only needed half a quart.
I asked her what the fuck she was thinking and she said "It just keeps taking it."
I drove the vehicle to bridgeport with to throw the thing on a lift and have the motor drained and refilled.
Fucking car sucked anyway.sigpic

and all of these reasons are why i sold my gti when I did...65k and it blew apart the valve cover and pcv system, resulting in oil everywhere...and as some of you witnessed, it smoked worse than an old diesel. I think it was caleb who asked me if my car was actually a diesel

So reviving this thread just to further inform you how awful VW Jettas are.
My sister's car which she bought for $6000 7 months ago without me or my dad knowing... my dad has already lectured her about "impulse buys".
2001 Jetta, 2.0L auto, 112k miles. Body excellent, almost brand new tires.
-burns 1 quart of 10w40 every week, no leaks. It even burns 20w50 and 75w90 gear oil.
-check engine light on ever since she bought it, its been off a total of 2 days
-speakers work every so often, some days the backs wont, other days the fronts wont.
-the car alarm goes off for no reason, even though she wasn't even aware it had an alarm, none of her keys have the button controller with them.
-the headlights suck worse than stock XJ headlights (yes I was surprised too)
-the thermostat came out in 8 pieces
-it won't shift into overdrive on the highway, screams at like 5 grand while only going 65
-consumes about 4 gallons for every 20 miles of highway due to above issue
-slips when it shifts. Will be in 2nd then suddenly just rev high and not go any faster.
-one of the plastic fans is missing a blade, even though there is no evidence of it ever contacting anything around it, and the missing blade is nowhere to be found
-The car smells like crayons, in fact its so strong you can smell it 5 feet away with the windows shut
-the trunk leaks water, even though the seals are new
heres where it gets interesting:
took it to my buddy who owns a shop. When he called back the first thing he told her was.... "you might want to consider buying a different vehicle"
-torque converter bad (explains the highway issue)
-transmission has large pieces of the internal clutches floating in the fluid
-someone welded the cat converter and manifold directly to the head
he stopped looking after that... I'm thinking of parting it out and using that money to buy her a cheap POS XJ or Ford Ranger that actually drives and shifts through all the gears. He told me rebuilding a VW transmission is very expensive compared to other vehicles because of the level of difficulty and the VW parts which are not only expensive but cheap quality.
Don't buy one of these, not sure why I see so many on the road. Everyone I've talked to has had similar problems. My friend's VW GTI has been in the shop 9 times over the last year hes owned it.Last edited by jeepkid03; 05-25-2011, 10:48 AM.-Josh

I want an old school Cabriolet. My buddy had one of those that little thing was sick. He also had an old school Turbo diesel's Jetta. My 2000 Jetta was actually really good to me. But then again the kid I bough it off of poured tons of Money into the engine and everything.Watch your backhoe, I'm the John Deere man.

Your only hope is to park it in the shade/keep it cool as much as possible.
