It is about half way back/forward and half way up the side so basically dead center on the passenger side.

I'm thinking it could be the shifter sensor for the indicator. Its been a little while since my 93 5 speeds been gone so I'm used to looking at the aw4 from underneath. I'm wondering why that would've shorted out tho...

It didnt short out. There was an 'external ignition source' basically something else set it on fire. And thanks for the help I hope that is it so I know what to replace.
