I knwo where you're coming from saying DSMC could be dead in a year, video tech has one major revolution ever year, be it SD card shooting, to DSLR's shooting video...
To scarlet... no matter what you say, scarlet is the revolution thats going to stick, heck, even if you have to compromise and only shoot HD on scarlet, you are still getting full manual control, everything you want in a camera, and when technology upgrades, Scarlet gives full upgradeability, you can have the same brain for years, and upgrade everything around and inside it..
I'm just usin whatever i have to hold me over

no doubt RED is insane, just something 90% of people dont ever need. I dont spend enough time shooting/editing outside of classes to warrant something new (that and I dont have the cash to buy one). I wanna get a new DSLR next spring/summer so it'll probably be a DSMC anyway if thats what the standard becomes.

And I can agree and disagree with your first statement, no doubt, for consumers and youtube users the scarlet is not what is needed...
but RED is for indie filmmakers who are interested in VFX or transfering to the big screen, thus 3k of info is needed

But if you were to get a scarlet and want to use you Canon glass, you'd want to get teh Scarlet S35, that will have a EF mount, making it possible to change all the electronic Apertures with no hassle...
And think about it, that camera, will be the last camera you'll need, for 10+ years, the only thing you'll need to pay for is sensor upgrades and new modules for sound, battery... so maybe $1k every two years
