so 2 months ago i had a local shop drill out a snapped exhaust manifold bolt and replace the gasket . . . or so i thought. turns out that he snapped a drill bit in there trying to drill it out, gave up and tacked a stud in there instead. well the stud snapped (within days but i didn't do anything about it cuz it didn't start leaking again til recently) and now i'm in the same position i was in 2 months ago . . . just 250 bucks shorter and now a drill bit in there instead of a bolt

i'm assuming drill bits are pretty hard . . . can they still be drilled out???? i wont tear into an exhaust manifold job so if i gotta have a shop do this all over again i'm gonna be pissed.

the only saving grace is the offending stud is the first one closest to the radiator so you can finagle a drill in there without taking everything apart

Take it back to where you had it originally and bitch up a storm till they fix it the right way.

drill bits are EXTREMELY hard to drill out

In order to drill a drill bit out, you need a Carbide bit. Be careful, though, while carbide can drill into hardened metal, it is very brittle and can snap extremely easy.

But yeah, take it back. Not your problem they decided not to use oil when drilling into something.

I had better luck breaking the rest of a drill bit out when it snapped but it was still a pain in mine assholes.

I agree on breaking it out. You will be better off trying to shatter the rest with a hardened punch or awl.

if you give him all that business and he was as stand up as you say, why did he FUBAR it up in the first place instead of doing it right.

WTF atre you talking about? I you do in fact bring him business and he is a stand up guy, then he shouldn't have a problem fixing his fuck up. If he does give you a problem then he is NOT a stand up guy.

I dont know, maybe its just me, but if that shit happened, I would have him fix it the right way, make sure it was done correctly, then start looking for a different place. If he half assed that, it would make me ponder as to what else he half assed
