  • Which would you get??

I have the opportunity to work a trade with a jeep shop, advertising promo work for jeep work.

A cage, or unibody stiffeners. (not talkin just TNT deals, i am saying front, middle, and rear unibody rail plating.)

My unibody up front around the steering box is stressed and cracking a bit, and i know this is the sign of more to come.

So it is either cage to stiffen the whole jeep in general (not really the front end), not to mention having a frickin cage to protect myself and my jeep to some degree.

Or, having my unibody rails all welded up and stiffened, cracks that are forming averted.

I guess I will do both no matter what, but what should I do first? Whatever one comes second probably wont be terribly soon.

Yes, I'm aware before anything is done, the unibody needs to be straightened because it is tweaked, spare me that much.

thats a hard decision, you could plate it yourself with nothing but a welder. but you don't have a bender, so I'd say get the cage then stiffen up the frame yo self.

edit: cause u deff need the frame stiffened first, do that, then use your free pass for the cage. better deal IMO.

No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

          Plate first.

Any sort of cage worth doing, you are going to want to tie into your uni-frame rails some sort of way.

IMO, doing a cage first, followed by frame plating would be bass ackwards.

My frame of mind would be this: If I were to plate my unibody and roll, I can always chop up the jeep and start a sique trail rig project. If my unibody falls apart, I'm back to square one with another jeep. If that makes any sense at all.

My thinking is the price difference if you did it yo self...

                  Cage( depending on elaborativeness) <$1000

                  Plating >$300

Do the plating yo self. then have them do cage.

I would think that a cage would require more time and $ so I would have them do that.

when i do it i want it to be beef as fawk

and if i tie in a cage to stock sheetmetal framerails i wont be happy.

i want to tie it into a dookinass plated framerailageness.

plate, not only for all the reasons above, but I also know your pure hate for off camber positions and dont really see you using the cage soon IMO.
You better decide if you are hanging on the cross, or banging in the nails

do the plating yourself. then have them do the cage later on. It will save you money in the long run

LOL Cage first if they are going to do it. Caging it will be more labor intensive and more costly with tubing vs. plating which is very cheap and you can do that yourself in your driveway.

(not saying you can't build a cage in your driveway, well, cause you did!)
