your brakes and power steering going out are a function of the motor not turning itself over anymore........... obviously. As to the reason why your Jeep shuts off it could be any number of electical problem; TPS, cam censor whatever. In my old Jeep (93) use to cut out like that........ it would go totally dead. Turned out (after I replaced the fuel pump that wasn't bad) that the ballast resistor for the power supply to the fuel pump was cracked in half....... the resistor is like a $5 part at a junkyard......... the fuel pump was $100.00 new
