im looking into getting a winch soon and am having trouble deciding which one. my options are the mile marker PE8 or SEC8, superwinch LP8500, and the smittybuilt xrc10. i know everyone is going to tell me to buy a warn but im on a budget.

the mile markers are both good winches with series wound motors but anyone with any experience with the company or input would help greatly. the warranties all look the same for the most part of all companies.

the superwinch looks like a nice one too with the series wound motor.

the xrc10 is real cheap and 2000lbs more with a series wound motor.

from what ive read so far, superwinch is the company with the best reputation. however mile marker has a good rep as well, and smittybuilt has the least known reputation for winches but every review ive read about the xrc series has been good, other than line speed which is slow on the xrc8 but faster on the xrc10.

so basically, im looking for anyone with experience with any of these winches that can tell me anything to sway me one way or the other. warranty is EXTREMELY important as well as how well the company works with its customers.

my friend has a superwinch lp8500 with amsteel rope and its awesome. we've both used it a lot, and it comes with (or at least his did, idk if they still do this) a bag full of accessories for it. its pulled my XJ up and over some real steep ledges where he had his TJ against a tree to keep it from being pulled forward, we've moved trees of the trail with it.. lots of good stuff.

All you're really going to find is series wound motors btw. Highly unlike you'll find a shunt motor or something

i ended up getting the superwinch and it's worked great so far! i'm real happy with it. only thing i have trouble with is winding the cable in evenly. it always goes off to the one side. i try to move slowly and get it even but it's just tough, anyone know any tricks?

that and i was wondering if anyone has the winches with the solenoid box mounted right above the spool? like the superwinch. and was wondering if anyone moved the solenoid box and like mounted it to the grill or something for better view of what's going on? that and it kind of gets bumped up and down if the cable wraps up too much in one spot.

            any thoughts appreciated.

x2. I needed a part for a winch one time and drove right to their facility in Preston. They don't sell parts there but they gave it to me.
