ran both. they have pros and cons.

yj is simple without track bars and death wobble, rode better on the street and flexed good. tj will be nice in the woods but yj is more predictable off camber and on hills. if you can do the springover right... do it

I'd wheel this with short arms

                      88 YJ...kinda. Clayton Hard Arms, V8, 1 tons w/Detroits, twin sticked T-18/NP205, Irok's, MasterCrafts, fuel cell, multi-colored

did i mention the tanks a tank.

both r gonna end up costing the same in the end.

soa yj with welded/geared/disc'd 8.8 rear and lockright/geared/ hp30 front, sye, on 36's. yj steering with jb4x4 highsteer bracket

                        or

short arm tj with crown vic/xj spring lift/lower control arms, d35 open/no gears drum, lp30 lockright/no gears on 33's

honestly leanin towards the tj. i've always wanted one. easier to build, winter months coming up it'll be alot nicer to drive and i've already had 2 yj's. nice to try something different. and down the line i could throw an 8.8 in/ weld it, gears + jks 1.25 body lift and bump up to 35/36's if i wanted. unless i won the lottery tho i can't justify droppin 2g's on long arms for it so it'd never happen

Per the specs the YJ looks like a no brainer to me. Plus a YJ offers cheaper "expansion" as far as moving up in tire and axle size. Where TJ's get expensive very quickly with bracket kits and such.
