  • lack of power

had trouble on startup due to a bad regulator, but theres also the issue that when im at cruise speed or accelerating at normal pace the jeep will suddenly lose power. it doesnt want to stall, it almost acts like you let go of the gas(while on the gas) but it stumbles and sometimes a little misfire knock is heard. to stop it from doing that you can either wait it out a few seconds or stomp on the gas and it stops. i changed the fuel pump because it needed a regulator anyway and i figured maybe there was something wrong with the check valve, but afterwords all that was fixed was the startup pressure, relieving me the need to crank it over 2 or 3 times before it caught.

    any ideas?

edit: oh it also only usually does it a few moments after startup and get a little ways down the road

Sounds exactly like what my tj does. from what i can tell it could be plugs and wires and all the stuff that goes with that or it could be the injectors

when was the fuel filter last changed? might have stirred up sediment in the tank when changing fuel pump

the fuel filter is in combination with the pressure regulator, and i changed the whole fuel pump assembly so it came with a new pressure regulator and strainers

With my limited engine knowledge and decent amount of common sense... if its only happening on startup, and im assuming you mean cold startup, then it sounds like a problem with ignition that is otherwise unnoticeable when the cylinders are hot. Maybe check timing?

I just think issues in the throttle body and injectors would be a constant issue, not only when just started.

it sounds like maybe something to do with the computer, but i would try what was stated above, some plugs, cap&rotor, and maybe a coil....
