Sooo i got this s10 np231 (bigger chain and gears) now idk if an s10 tcase is 21 spline or 23..or even if it matters for the gears and chain to go on my case (np231 in my 99 xj) Anyone know the details? Im pretty sure they should just slip right on.

The s10 is 27 spline. Will not bolt up. Look at my writeup, additionally you can switch the planetaries (s10 case has a 6 gear plantery, jeep has 3, to the load is distributed to more gears) I did not get into it in the writeup but it can be done also... I have 2 disassembled 231s at my shop also if you need to look

also, on the output to the front yoke, (the shaft and gear are one peice) the inside edge of the surface that slides inside the bearing (the smaller side) is like rough..but flat..you can even see it in owens pick of the 2 front output shafts..where the xj is clean on both sides of the little surface that rides on the bearing but he s10 is rough on the inside edge. Im guessing that is just how it is.
and when i took the case apart i had to lightly tap out the front output..which is normal..but sliding it back in it does have a little play..im guessing when the other side of the case is on and the front yoke is on tight this wont matter.
