i still dont see the reason not to get a rear tire carrier, sure you lose a little visibility, but put blind spot mirrors on your side views and you wont even need a rear view anymore. the drawbacks from doing the rear tire carrier are less than any other option in your case since you want to keep a flat load floor in the back.

I like the idea of the 60/40 seat with the tire mounted vertical.
In the TJ i hope to eventually run just a third seat rather than the whole bench.
Its a nice option IMO.
its just too bad that you cant do something like this:

It may be good practice, but in the end it won't do much good." -My Mother.

Will, like me, Does not want the Tire
1) Hanging off the back of his jeep
2) On the roof of his jeep
I find it economical and EASY TO ACCESS when it is in the back. OK, yes my hatch doesn't close half the time, but the last thing I want to fucking do is blow a tire and then crawl all over my jeep to get the fucking tire off my roof. I do not like tire carriers at all, I have no idea why, but I don't. Also, with my current driveway where I must back into a single lane driveway, I need the visibility.
I have simply removed the back seats for the time being, to fit the spare, my bushel of shafts and my highlift. I would be nice to somehow make a mount and put it on a slight angle upward. It would add space without killing COG.
My gears have been turning on this project as well, but I don't have the materials to build on, nor a welder to put it together. Once again, I work with guns, not jeeps, so my experience with them is limited only because of my material and tool count for jeep repair and modification does not come close to my toolboxes that hold my gunsmithing stuff.
So, when we are all done worrying about where to put the tire, we can discuss a mount.sigpic
