  • Spare tire mount. inside the trunkspace on an XJ

Ok so, ive seen angled pickup truck tire mounts in the beds before, and thats kinda what im aiming for here. im tired of my spare just floating around in the back on top of stuff and just generally bein a big fucking pain in my ass. so maybe this will alleviate it.

anyone know where i should even look for something like this? i feel (like all auto parts like this) that itll be a fortune for no reason, just one of those things.. i could probably build one as i have a lot of tube around but as always i dont really have a welder handy...plus my tube is a little large for something lke this, though i dont know.

something similar to this, but lower so it isnt all up in my rear glass. the spare right now cannot lay flat without some real effort and a slight angle alleviates that a bit.

    links, suggestions, so on.

Would you want it on more of an angle so you can utilize the rear seat?

sounds like a good plan, i would be down to weld some shit up for you if need be, as long as it's thicker stuff like 1/8-1/4, mecan't weld to sheetmetal yet

can use the rear seat now but its a squeeze to do so with it. i want it angled for that, and id have a little more space to put stuff around/under the tire in back, as opposed to on top of it/all over.

            im not sure.

im unsure if i wanna do this still just because something hard mounted back there would make carrying any kind of load otherwise a pain in the ass

            kinda just optionin for ideas

if you spread the feet of it out to the edges of the cargo area, itwould probably be stable enough to not have to bolt it down, just make it's stance wide so the weight of he tire holds it down

i can't picture that working, without it bolted down the first time he gets on the skinny in a rock garden the tire is going to jump into the air

                ask me how i know...

Well, I spose either way you want the frame of the carrier as squat and spread out as possible, maybe make a tool box under the carrier?

You could use a stock Wrangler tire carrier and then build a frame for it. I would think those types of mounts are pretty pricey if you find one
