      is this a fact?

i have read that is true, but never had anyone with a concrete answer.

also arent the shock mounts parralel to the tube whereas the xj is perpendicular?

I'm doing this down the road i was just wondering which axles to look into getting so if i find a good deal on them i can jump on it. and yeah i sold the other 44 cuz it has a screwey lug pattern didnt match the rear and there was really no simple way to make it match the rear and im not gonna be going bigger than 35's for a while

You will need new shock mounts but that is perfect time to install higher ones. But as for the leaves they bolt in. Thats what Justiin did.

ahh I wish I had known this. We threw out a set of waggy 44's a last summer. Right after we drove the waggy into a tree, then blew the motor on the ride home, then rolled and crushed it with a backhoe. It was a long day.

Why waste your time with 44s you don't gain much going to a 44 go straight to one tons not much more money not much more work and a lot stronger than the 44.

You just need to do both the front and rears at the same time and get 8 lug 16" rims, unless you want to do a lot of extra work and money to get 5 lugs and smaller wheels.

im not gonna be hitting tires bigger than 35's anytime in the near future.... so 44's are a smarter choice, i may do a 9'' and a 44 tho

Don't the later XJ dana 30 fronts have the same U-jonits and spline counts as the 44?

So all you gain really gaining is a larger Ring and pinion but you can get a HP 30 which is probably as strong as a low Pinion 44. High pinion diff are something like 30% stronger than their low pinion counterpart.

The only HP 44 are in the ford which use the radius front arm front suspension and have a funky tube section which you would have to remove. Then to find Flat top knuckles that you will still have to have machined for high steer, and you need to find one with the correct bolt pattern.
44 are a lot of work you need to mutt a few axles together and still not as strong as a 60 which you will never need to replace just upgrade.

Here is some good information on 44s http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/index.htm
After reading all that it made me go to Ford HP60 with King pins. Every upgrade you can do to a 44 you can do to a 60. And you don't loose that much ground clearance.
Shorten the axles aren't that bad I can do it for you.

I've talked a lot of people out of 44s and they end up saving for 60 so they only need to build it once.
When your done the 60 is still worth money
