  • TJ planning

    The girlfriend has a 2005 Wrangler X.

The tires are close to being completely beat. So I figure it is time for an upgrade.

    Planning on...
    MT/Rs 33x12.5R15
    Cragars 15x8 (3.75" bs)
    Rough Country 2.5" lift
    & bump stops

A few questions come to mind...
Will a spare tire fit in the stock location on the tailgate?
Shocks... worth it to spend the extra coin on something better than Rough Country shocks?
Should the tires fit as long as bump stoppingh is done correctly?

I've never owned a TJ so any suggestions are appreciated.

Nothing intense, but there are quite a few dirt roads around here.

No serious rock crawling, but definitely some mountain passes.

With the 2.5 inch lift I experienced a little drive line vibe but you should be able to eliminate that with a mm lift

We have the RC 2.5" on our tj. We only have 31's, but there is plenty of room for 33's. the ride at first was a little rough and bouncy, but now that its settled and the shocks have worn in a bit it's much much better and actually pretty nice to drive (we like the truck feel though, it could be a smidge softer I guess.)

You will have to get a spare tire extender from rough country

If you are looking to go about this on the cheap, a 2"bb and 33" skinnys will work on stock wheels. I ran 33x10.5"s and the fat bob budget boost without an sye with no vibrations on the nv3550. I am not sure how that would work on an auto trans or if it would make a difference.

Just do 2"bb 33x10.5km2 and your good. No drive line mods. And you can dd it.

Spend a bit more and pop for new springs instead of a BB. BDS spring and a rear track bar bracket was 250 and the ride is far less jarring.
