  • waggy 44 mini spool and mini spool or aussie

So Im buying traction devices for my waggy 44's like tonight. i was planning on a mini spool for the rear and since they are like 100 bucks Im thinking about one for the front too. save some money since an aussie is $250.
thoughts? how hard will it be to turn on the trail?

I only have 33's on the jeep and will only go to 35's.

IT shouldnt be too bad on that size tire with a spool, but definitely worse than with a locker.
A lot actually depends on the backspace of your wheel. The closer to center the tire pivots the easier it is to turn. When the wheel is offset too much the tire has to roll to steer and this is what makes it hard.
Im a wholesale distributor for Nitro gear and I have access to everything drivetrain, if your going to order stuff let me know and I can see if I can get you a better price.
Right now we are doing free upgrade to 3 day shipping on all ground orders too.
    Dan.

For $139 i think i should pick up two mini spools and call it a day. Ill send you a pm later i dont want to do it from my phone. I tried searching and have come up with no info on whether mini spools are different for higher and lower case ratios. Do you know

i'm sure you'll turn fine. the aussie is always locked when in 4 wheel in the trails anyways i thought. sure seems like it when i turn at least. and if that's true, definitely no big deal with the mini.

There is no difference. Just to make sure though, both axles are 30 spline right?

An Aussie only locks when power is applied. A mini spool means you are always locked. Most people don't run a min spool unless they have lockout hubs.

As Dan said, your ability to turn with a spool is determined by how wide you are.

generally wwhen you turn off road aren't you under power? I always thought my Aussie was locked when turning because it had power and also certainly feels like its locked. am I wrong to think that?

Turning under power isnt the problem though. Its turning when your stopped, or bound up in the rocks. Sitting still and turning with an aussie will be easier.
I used to unlock one hub between obstacles to make it easier before hydro assist. But from my ball joint centerline to my tire centerline is like 7-8"

My front is spooled. Occaisionally my front tires get bound up in the rocks and I can't turn at all until I get my front tires in a different position. Aside from that, it's livable. I do plan to add hydro assist. This is with 36s on stock 8 lug wheels.
