I'm running 31's with my Dana 35 trac loc and us my tj as a daily driver and will go a few times a year to play at Mabel or Rousch. I'm getting ready to change the fluid in the diff and I figured that swapping in new clutch pads wouldn't hurt. I have 110 on them now and figured it would make for a nice Sunday afternoon projects. Thoughts, is it worth it?

Eh. does it work now? Have you had any issue with it? Its not the most fun job to do.

I have an entire D35 LSD carrier if you want it. It's probably cheaper and easier to swap the whole carrier than just the packs

            Do D35 gears fit in a D44? I thought D35 = 35" tires, D44 = 44" tires, and so on?

I have no problems with it, but I thought that since I was in there might as well. As much as I would love a new axel, I really have no need for one, knock on wood. I don't ever plan on going larger than 33, and since my BFG are like new the 35 works great.

Also a replacement kits is $60 vs several hundred for a new axel

I'm assuming it is not possible to put a lunchbox locker in a LSD 35? I can't comment on how much work it is putting in the packs, but a lunchbox might be a better option if possible.

Also, is it possible to add extra packs to tighten them up a little?

If it works I'd leave it be, dumping money into a d35 is a loss, I would never lock it thats for sure I blew the axle seals in mine going in state forests with 31's so forgive me if i lack love for this axle.

I appreciate the feedback, that's why I asked. I heard stories of carnage on 31's and then tales of gents running 35's.

From my expirience, I've had two D35s..both were on DDs both were occassionally and lightly wheeled on logging trails and pipelines. Never had an issue with them, 3 people I know have D35s one has a lunchbox on 31s, one has the LSD disks and the third is welded.....none of them have had issues thus far. However they all are lightly wheeled and run no larger than 31" putting money into it...no, just running it till it actually breaks, gofer it! From everything I hear its usually hit or miss 50/50 chance with a 35, some hold up fantastically....others explode like a hand grenade...needless to say I was ecstatic when I got my current XJ cause it has a 29 spline 8.25, but I don't even trust that.
