  • Another one to hang on the fridge

Got pulled over tonight and got a warning for defective equipment fenders do i need to put fenders on and bring it to dmv or can i maybe just put mus flaps on?
And just a fun little surpise i was born in 83 if you go by the super duper smart Milford cops

FENDERS - Fenders are required over front and rear tires. Front and rear fenders must come at
least half way down the rear of the tire, to the center of the axle and must start at a line directly
above the axle, or be equipped with suitable mud flaps and all fenders must cover entire tread width of the tire.

so by this i only need fenders for the top and can use mud flaps for the bottom, the use of or to me makes it seem i could just use mud flaps but i can be wrong

    http://www.cga.ct.gov/2001/rpt/2001-R-0344.htm

its late and i cant find a definite answer

that sucks, if you have to go to the dmv you probably need fenders and mud flaps. Do you run wheel spacers? you could start by taking those out.

I got one of these a few years ago.... Pretty sure it was a ticket & I sent it back not guilty or whatever. It was thrown out because they couldn't read what the cop wrote the ticket for.

I also got one of these like 5 years ago or so & just ignored it and nothing happened with it.

(a) No person shall operate on any public highway any motor vehicle with a passenger or commercial registration which is not equipped with fenders on all wheels which come into contact with the highway unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle.

          (b) No person shall operate or cause to be operated any bus, truck, truck-tractor, full trailer or semitrailer of registered gross weight exceeding three tons on any public highway unless the same is equipped with suitable metal protectors or substantial flexible flaps behind the rearmost wheels, and, in case the rear wheels are not covered at the top and rear by fender, body or other parts of the vehicle, the rear wheels shall be covered at the top and rear by protective means of such standard type or design and so installed as to reduce, as far as practicable, such wheels from throwing dirt, water or other materials on the windshields of following vehicles, except in cases in which the motor vehicle is so designed and constructed that the above requirements are accomplished by reason of the fender or body construction or other means of enclosure.

          (c) Violation of any provision of this section shall be an infraction.

Adequate enough to minimize spray back, that's all you need, according to the law, take a bunch of pics of stock sedans where the tires stick out and see what they say

In all honesty it must have been a bad day for that cop or he had to fill his quota. I think you have the right idea, pull spacers and go back with cheap mudflaps.

In fact, it only took one wheeling trip to ensure the fact that bushwackers will never fit again.

My idea for fender flares for the road then removal for whheling was as followed. Zeus clips on the back side of your fender you rivot on the back side of the clip. Then when your on the road just put the screw in they tirn half a turn and clipped on. When you go wheeling u remove. Keeps cops happy and u out of court. In the words of ice cube, "fuck the police"
