I have a 98 tj with a 2.5L with about 107,000 miles. I give her full synthetic oil changes about every 5,000 miles or so. Doesn't leak a drop of oil and never had a problem.
Today i hear a knocking from the engine and it gets faster as i hit the gas and she's burning oil and blowing white smoke from the exhaust.
Blown ring? cracked piston? is there any hope left for my engine? any advice? thanks

white smoke can mean head gasket as well...

on a serious note, check your oil for radiator fluid or to see if its milky. If its clean thn its probably not a bad head but more than likely something you mentioned above.

definitely start with a compression test. it will tell you whats going on. If one cylinder is way down, you may have broken a piston or dropped a valve or something. If two cylinders next to each other are bad, you most likely blew the head gasket in between. My only concern is the burning of oil and coolant while also knocking. sounds like a possible cracked head or something along those lines. either way it doesnt sound good

gave her an oil change about 3 weeks ago and the oil still looks new and the antifreeze looks great too. gotta get that compression test done

i have compression but a mechanic friend of mine said it might be a rod. anyone familiar with the 2.5 willing to come take a quick look to see if i can still save my engine before i start looking for another 2.5 to swap in? if you willing to take a drive out to lend a hand, i'd cover your gas. any help at all would be really appreciated. it's my daily driver, so thank god i live close to work

kinda hard to tell without seeing/hearing it.

but could be a stuck lifter.

happened on my wrangler

I dumped a quart of mystery oil in it and it went away after a couple days.
