HP d30 questions

So im new to jeep building and have a question. I just put up a wanted add but then this morning came across some one that has an axle but i'm not sure if this is what i need for my 01 wrangler.The gearing has been re-geared on this already and is exactly what i need anyone that knows about this can you let me know if this will work for me . can I swap over my brakes and knuckles from my LP d30?


axle info... ts a 87 Jeep Cherokee front axle dana 30 HIGH PINION with vac disconnect. It was re-geared to 4.10 and is complete rotor to rotor



Again any info would be great id like to grab this ASAP.

Well that axle is sold already the posting was just still up on CL .What year Cherokees have the HPd30 and these are direct bolt ins correct.Ive been doing some reading online and i've read that the 4cyl Cherokees had the 4.10 gears just like the 4cyl wranglers , is this correct?

it would bolt right in.. but it has the vacuum disconnect and small u joint shafts which are less than ideal. but u can use the tj long side shaft to eliminate the disconnect.. all u need to do is put a seal in the tube by the carrier, make a block off plate for where the vacuum motor was, and install ur tj shafts into it, which should bolt right in and have the bigger, stronger, 297/760 joints

how much are they asking for that axle?

yes 4 bangers came with 4.10s.. xj's are direct bolt in and were hp from 84-99

Thanks for the info . they were asking 250 but they sold it alresdy im going to try to find one from a salvage yard now i guess. SO sll cherokees from those years will have the high pinion axle? And i should look for one without thr disconnect

Yes those years are all HP, I forget which years are vacuum disco but I'm sure someone will chime in.

I just got a 98 xj hp30 from the boneyard and paid 150 for it and its in nice shape,i think the name of the place was websters,maybe see what they got there.

Yea im going to make a few calls around tomorrow. i know its nearly impossible to find one with the 4.1o gearing so im going to buy one with what ever i can get buy the ring and pinion, master install kit , carrier and have it Re-geared. It seems like the easiest thing rite now.

Yea i called around today found one with 4.10s for 750 but i dont know if im going to get that one . I never got a hold of you to talk about getting some work done . If i bought one and then brought it to you out of the jeep with the new carrier , gear set, master install kit how much would you re-gear it for . i may just be better off doing that . Just to add I believe the vacuum discos came in 84-91's but not 100% sure I am 100% sure they were in 87-90's

I think i want to go with the HPd30 either way i have to pull my front axle and for 150 for the hp axle and then the gears and installation it comes out to be about the same if i bought an lpd30 with the rite gear ration so i mine as well upgrade to the better front diff.

when i Install the HPd30 will i need adjustable control arms? i have a 4 inch skyjacker lift with fixed lower control arms and the uppers are the stock.
Also do i need them in the rear for the 8.8 swap? can i just get the tops if needed or bottoms?
