I took my stock roof rack and mounted 6 lights to it by lots and lots of careful measuring and drilling to make it into what it is today. I think that this is a great option and is basically free to do. Check out my build thread to see it, I think it turned out great and looks good. You may face issues with space between the front bumper and the grill with anything but slim lights. Anything over around 2 or 3" on a stock bumper is going to be forced to face down at an angle to clear the grill. Also your roof racks are relatively flat, however, your bumper is not.

I forgot that some roof rack slides go all the way up to the front also, mine end here, im kinda thinking it will look stupid/ cant point them down enough to hit anywhere near the front of the vehicle

I don't think that if you are looking for long-range off road lights pointing them down enough really isn't going to be an issue as you have headlights for short range. You could also fab a mount for you stock bar or (don't know if this is possible) take the rails from another XJ and throw them on yours, just be careful if you take this route because the rails are different on some years.

If you mount them on your bumper you can probably use them on the road. If you mount them on the roof you can only use them when you go night wheeling, which my guess wont happen as often. I would just say bumper or wherever you think looks more SUPA SICK!!!

bumper. I'm fairly sure they'll fit there.

You could get a Thule bar that mounts on the driprails if you want to mount them further forward.

My vote's for the bumper though- if you want to do roof lights, I'd save for a bar of some sort.

you wont be able to take rails from another year where they go all the way to the front cause there are no mounting points for that lol. i would do bumper that way you could use em on the road.
