Sooo I got a winch for free, because it was busted. I've gone a few rounds with it and havent had the best luck. Before I waste more time on it (and I will) I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to buy replacement internals from winch companys or aftermarket. I mean, I will eventually get this one to work using what I got, but the electrical bits inside the motor housing are pretty fucked, and it would save alot of time if I could just get new parts. let me know if you guys know anything about rebuilding these fucking things.

Its the metal "brush" pieces that actuate the motor. one is straight up fucked, and I cant get a new wire to solder to it. so the thing will only ever spin a hair before it locks up again. It could be a few other things, but im like 99% sure that its that. If I can just get a new cover from that side with all new wires and shit already soldered up id be golden."Watching you work on your Jeep is like watching a doctor operate on a cadaver...

I have messed around with a few winches before. I have gotten small parts from superwinch to repair a winch.
Having said that, I guess half the battle is knowing what you have. Perhaps you could take some pictures of the winch and send them to parts dept's at different companies. Or maybe post the pics online and see if anyone recognizes it. If you get nowhere, maybe try a good starter/ alt rebuild shop or an electric motor shop. I have used Clark-son in New Haven for a starter rebuild on my stock Willys jeep. They are very knowlegable and do great work... you get what you pay for (I paid more than I had hoped, but I think it was still a great value). I have also dealt with Ludwig electric motor in Middlefield. They are extremely knowledgable and offered the company I worked for some lower cost alternatives for expensive parts... Good luck!1950 Willys Trail Rig

When you figure out which winch you have call/email them for a parts diagram. I took my Warn XD9000i apart a couple yrs ago with help from their parts diagram along with an electrical trouble shooting guide. My winch wouldnt pull under load. Ordered parts through EVB, greased that sumbitch back up and it was good to go.- 99TJ 4.0 4.5 RE springs, Clayton 5in LA stretch, GenRight Armor, 35x12.50 bfg mt, currie hp9 rear w/ 35 spline detroit, hp44 w/ arb and 4340 axles, k/n fipk, banks headers, warn xd9000i
