  • Ice fishing shack jeep

Okay so my jeep has officially turned into an ice fishing shack with enough holes in the floors for at least 20 tip-ups. So I need to turn it into a full floor again. I have take everything out (carpets...etc) with no real issues and no cutting so everything can be just put back in when I'm done. I am now cutting out the rust and grinding and sanding...etc. I am planning on welding in 16ga plate steel for the major areas but there are a couple places that I have found just a pin sized hole that I don't want to weld a new piece on as they are so small I do not want to put my carpet back in as it hold moisture it what cause my FUBAR floor in the first place so I have a couple ideas. I am going to bed-line what ever I use and have my stock floor mats in place. My best scenario would be to bondo the whole thing over the existing floor and the new plate to create a fairly even surface then bed-liner over it. Or just paint it with a gloss or a semi gloss to make it easy to wash. I could also fill the tiny holes with weld and just bed-line the whole thing and leave it uneven. Or I could put the carpet back in without the "padding" that holds moisture. Can someone give me input on this specifically 4 questions. Does bondo stick to bare metal, will it protect against rust, will it stick to bedliner, can I bed-line bondo?

yes bondo will stick to bare metal and yes it will soak up moisture like a sponge. im sure you can bedline it.

97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.

weld the pinholes and grind the welds smooth DONT use bondo IMHO its a very ghetto solution

i would just cut it all out... little pin holes will always turn into a rust hole no matter what ya do.... ITS THE NATURE OF RUST..... cut it all out and start new. floor pans are reasonably cheap, or you can always just make new ones yourself.... its not to hard to just sheet the whole thing and have brandy new floors with no worrys again. if ya need some tips, let me know cuz ive done quite a few in my days..

also check out my build thread for the cute little DD. i think my floor pans are what kept the rest of the jeep together
