  • Re connecting 4wd linkage

So on my buddies zj, it grinds when trying to go into 4low, and then grinds going back into 4 hi full time, but when you slam it back as hard as you can it ingages 4low. So my friend andy said to loosen the nut on the shift lingage and i could have swore he said to pop the little gromet that goes from the linkage to the unibody bracket. I took it off, didn't really know how i was gonna finagel this one..... And i can't get the gromet to pop back into the bracket. Tried using a prybar and even channel locks but i can only get like half the gromet to seat.

Any thing im not doing right? i got scared shitless when he went to leave and it didn't move, then realized the tcase was in neutral.

So what im going to look into more is, cutting off that gromet, welding a bolt to where it used to go on the adjustment piece, the using a nut on the inner side towards the unibody and using a nut to hold it on.

Would this be a smart choice or not?
