  • Welding LSD diff

Well to keep up with my buddies locked rigs Ive been thinking of welding my 8.8 diff however its a limited slip, is welding this any different then welding up a standard open diff? I would just buy an aussie but then I'd have to change the carrier, Bank accounts deffinatly not going to allow for that right now.

I'm pretty sure you can't weld an LSD.

Can you take a pic? I am sure you could do it somehow... not as easy as welding an open diff but if it has some kind of spider/side gears you can weld it somehow.

I dont see why you wouldnt be able to weld this

I like this idea then weld, but i have never welded a diff before.
The plate just seems like an extra beef

I thought it could be... Any suggestions on welding a plate in or just weld the gears? and should i weld gear to gear or gear to housing or both? not to be a PITA just making sure im doing this right and am not gunna warp the carrier or some bs

I always go gear to gear and gear to case. In this case you might need to put some flat stock from the side gears to the case. Then just weld gear to gear and the spiders to the case. With every 8.8 I've done, you have to make sure you can still get the cross pin out so you can get the c clips out, pretty important to remember!

Nice dude, what did you weld it with? I usually spend a good hour or two cleaning it after welding to get all the spatter and slag out. Then I like to change the oil shortly after, just in case anything stayed in there. You don't want that shit to tear up your bearings or gears.
