Well decided to put up my build over here, the big one I had on Cherokeeforum is starting to peter out a little bit and hoping to to get some more useful commentary from over here as well.

Well anyways, the direction im planning on going with it has changed drastically in the past month or so now is as good a time as any to make a new one, but anyways lets start from the beginning.

I bought my Jeep just over a year ago now in April 09. It was an 01 with like 50,000 miles on it and it was on its second owner, looked in pretty good shape. I ended up walking away with it for $5400 not a terrible deal in my opinion. After bombing it through the woods that very same day it got home to look like this.

Started wheeling some extreme trails right away

Sat the same way till I picked up a Rough Country 3in Series II and some new 31's a couple month's later.

I saved up for a few weeks and bought myself an Aussie locker for my rear axle. Went to test it the next day.

A few days later I sideswiped some tress and broke the flares and bumper endcaps off. The paint was really scratched so I decided to paint it flat tan. While I was at I bought some Bushwackers and trimmed the fenders.

    Before

    After

Money got tight over the winter. Still managed to pick up a Warrior Products front bumper and some used soft 8's.

Went back to working full time around February, bought a gas tank skid, JCR tire carrier and some 1.5" lift shackles.

Last pic of the Jeep on 31's.

Picked these up brand new for half price a few days later. Mounted them on a friends machine and balanced them with 0.25 airsoft bb's.

Looked like this after the new tires.

Then I wheeled it some more.

Right afterward I swapped in a High Pinion D30, ZJ rear disks and a ZJ proportioning valve. Stops better than it did stock now and no more
replacing brake shoes every 5,000 miles due to dirt.

In early April I went to Rausch Creek for the weekend, met a couple of the guys on here and had a blast. Was a great trip and i'm definitely going back ASAP. Learned alot about what my Jeep needs too.

Haven't done any mods since then though, had a bit of a career change so I haven't been putting as many of my paychecks into the direct deposit slot on my Jeeps dashboard.

Im getting back to the point where im working on it again, as of now its sitting in my garage with no seats, carpets or interior panels. Im gonna bedline the floors and spray paint all of the bare metal inside and im gonna be leaving all the plastic paneling besides the dash and door panels off, the stripped bare look has been growing on me.

    The future:

-Finally install the 4.88 gears sitting in my garage.
-Cut the rockers out and weld my old KOR rock sliders in their place.
-Beef up my rear bumper mounts, cracked and stretched the stock ones.
-Full length Frame stiffeners (Thinking about these http://www.rocdogfab.com/index.php?p...mart&Itemid=59 )
-Eaton E-Locker or OX Rear Locker (Replace Aussie), leaving the front open to eliminate breakage.
    -Alloy Shafts front and rear
-HD SYE w/ Front Shaft or cut down a junkyard driveshaft out of an old Chevy truck.
    -Belly and Oil Pan Skid
-Racing Seats in front, 1 short back bucket seat in the rear and weld plate over the rest of the floor to make storage boxes.
-Remove Bashwackers, run flareless with fender armor. Maybe JCR corners in back and weld some 3/16th over the fronts.
-Bedline entire exterior, maybe ill get red doors and a red hood.
-Buy my own welder so I dont have to keep begging other people to weld stuff for me.

Basically my entire goal is to build as rugged and capable a vehicle I can but still keep it street drivable since its highly unlikely i'll ever have a tow rig, comfort and looks aren't really of any concern to me anymore though.

I've been thinking for a while I'd like to take it out to Moab, maybe next summer if everything is all finished. I'd like to go out that way and drive around since i'm considering moving out that way after i'm done with college. Also after seeing the one episode of top gear with the cheap 4x4's in the Amazon its a dream of mine to go and explore down that way, not necessarily extreme offroading but just sightseeing and rugged roads. So for any sort of a trip like that reliability and strength is another must.

Well that's about it, if you ended up reading all of that and have any further ideas or suggestions let me know, I'm definitely not an expert with this and like to learn about stuff other people have done. Thanks.

for the rear bumper, you already saw the link from NAXJA. sam just beefed up my mounts a tad and they tie in a bit further back than JCR so i'm hoping they hold up for the time being.

for stiffeners, check out BRIANHO13's stuff. hes a dude on NAXJA making parts. Lots of great feedback from him over there.

    http://www.hdoffroadengineering.com/...-stiffener-set

i'd leave the rear locked with the aussie and run the selectable up front. truss the 30 with a good cover alloys shafts and 760 ujoints and you wont have to worry about breaking much bc you can turn it off when you want to. just be smart. rear shafts i wouldnt bother with chromos on 33s. maybe a set of spare stockers to be safe.

for a belly skid, anything will bend as you saw with my TNT @ RC lol. but a DPG or JCR with a skidrow tranny skid will be a good bolt on option IMHO.

AND PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT BEDLINE THE OUTSIDE.

it weighs a shitload and looks like a load of shit. the tan spraybomb job you did came out really nice dude.

also, youre gonna hate not having panels and carpet in about.... now. it gets hot as shit in there.

otherwise it looks good dude! sam and i and two other dudes from here (BOX & drthunder) are going cross country in a few weeks, i cant wait! its so cool out there.

Im still on the fence with the aussie, my main issue is how much of a royal pain in the ass it is to remove a shaft with it in there, with C-clips the whole locker has to come out, and with all those pins and springs it turns what should be a 10 minute job into about an hour and a half. The full carrier lockers look like it would make that easier. I might put a selectable up front too, I do like the idea of leaving unlocked till I need it, then locking it in and having amazing traction.

I might forgo the chromos up front just because I dont trust the ring and pinion not to break first, especially on 4.88's but the rear ones for my 8.25 are only 110 a pop on Rusty's so I don't see why not for those.

As for the paint, well the paint on there is beginning to flake so something has to be done. My options were to spend 200 dollars to paint it again with single stage automotive paint and watch it flake off in another 10 monthes. Spend about 80 bucks on crappy looking rattlecan job which will be even less durable than what I have now, spend about 500-800 dollars on 3 stage paint with an undercoat requiring me to bring my entire jeep down to bare metal and have it be similar to stock quality paint, or spend 150 on bedlining it, have it be ugly as shit but be done with it forever, I could still paint some tan over top of it if I wanted too, most bedliner can be painted over. Also the weight wouldnt be too bad, im guessing the whole thing if I ground the underside down a little and redid most that as well would end up weighting in at about 25 pounds, and that's wet. Its a bit heavy for a paintjob but its not like its going to be sagging out my suspension or anything. At this point I wish I just left it blue and touched up what I scratched.

Also, wont not having panels make it colder? What im worried about is the winter time, im prolly gonna freeze my ass off. I think I might put them back in anyways, it looked cool for about 2 days and now its just starting to look stupid. Carpet is staying out though, unless I get ahold of an awesome tan berber rug to put in there like this http://www.dormbuys.com/images/produ...k_Berber_I.jpg, I definately want to try to do my headliner with a berber rug too. I get all sorts of goofy ideas for stuff I want to do to the inside since my XJ is kinda going to be a camper.

Cross country sounds sweet, hopefully I'll be up for doing it myself next summer. Cant wait for my Jeep to be finished, my roadtrip plans are the entire reason im building it in the first place.

No, single stage automotive paint from NAPA. A hair more durable than spray paint and easier to spray.

Some purchases and some major decisions have been made.

Fuck fullwidths, sounded like a good idea for all of 3 days.

Bought JCR Rear Corner Guards and 1/4 panel guards.

Bought 1/8th inch plate steel to weld on and plate/reinforce the front fenders/ cover up the ugly screw holes from the Bushwackers.

                    Bought Ruffstuff Diff covers.

Bushwackers are coming off, forever, they fell apart like soggy paper towels. Im going to run flareless.

Exterior is being repainted, the tan is wearing off due to poor workmanship on my part. Going to be painted gloss white, corner guards, front fender reinforcement plates and anything below the door creases will be bedlined.

Full length, frame stiffeners will be purchased with my next paycheck and welded on before painting. Then re-undercoating the bottom/

Jeep will be done by Fall, i'm promising myself. Other than the bodywork I just listed I will be soon purchasing:

Regear to 4.10 or 4.56 with *maybe* Cryo'ed gears
                    Selectable rear locker
                    Front and Rear Alloys
                    SYE
                    Belly Skid
Maybe racing seats would be cool, since I no longer have a back seat maybe a rear jumpseat bucket too for a 3rd passenger

Hopefully I wont have to drive my F250 ALL summer long.

I would keep the rear aussie and get a selectable for the front. Also go with 4.56 just in case you go with bigger tires in the future.

Im thinking about doing just that with the lockers, Still not sure though, I must think upon this some more. And no I just got the ones that have the tailight guards, not the boxes. Didnt want to spend $120 on LED tail lights and then have no backup lights, with my big honkin tire carrier on the back I prolly will never hit the stock lights anyways. They look like these:
