  • H.O. MJ Build

So I picked up a 1989 Jeep Comanche, absolute base model for a whopping $400. It's stock with the 2.5, 2WD, AX4 4 Speed Manual, Short Box, and from the factory lacking power steering . Well this is just unacceptable to be a good winter Daily Driver and a good wheeling rig.
The plans are to swap in a 4.0HO, AX-15, and NP231 out of a 94 Cherokee parts rig. The disassembly and removal of required parts Jeep has begun, and the project is underway.

Here are some pics of her the day I picked her up.

Gonna be throwing in a Dana 30 Front. And keeping the stock Dana 35 Rear axle for now til I'm ready to lift. At which point I will pick up an 8.8 and do SOA in the rear.

Took the front bumper off, removed all the surface rust, and through some black paint on it. Also through on some old fog lights I had lying around. Just trying to improve the looks a little bit.

Also have been working on stripping everything I need out of my donor Cherokee. Hopefully will have just about everything out of the Cherokee this weekend. We'll see...

Finally got the motor all pulled out of the parts Jeep.

Tomorrows plans are to completely strip the Comanche, so the swapping of the wiring harness and other parts can commence.

Today I had AAA tow the Comanche to Andy's garage where we removed the 2.5 and the AX4 out of the Comanche. We also removed a lot of the junk in the engine bay.

Next weekend the remaining renix parts, wiring harness, and interior will be completely out of the Jeep. And god willing 4.0 HO parts should be making their way into the Comanche.
