  • Project:The Wife's ZJ

On the right is the latest addition....The specs:
    1997 ZJ Laredo
    4.0L
    111k
Traded for a 1997 Chevy Tahoe 2-dr (On its death-bed)
Fully loaded on the inside (The amount of electronics scares me a bit, but it sure is comfy)

    The Needs and Plans:
    Needs:
    -Front Shocks
    -Paint
    -Muffler
    -Tailgate supports
    -Stereo
    -Windshield
    -Tires
    -Brakes
    -Battery and cables
-Passenger window that rolls down like a Subaru

    Plans:
Wife wants a 2" budget boost in a year or so.

Picked it up yesterday and already repaired the following:
    -Oil change
    -Serp belt that was screaming
-Hvac vacuum that wasn't hooked up to anything
    -Painted rear window vent covers
-Screwed in a bunch of loose panels on the inside
-A bath and discovered that the wheels are salvageable (These are the ones that will be going on the XJ)
-And wipers that were shredded (As you can see)
This will be the short-term project as the XJ is having a few new issues

I have a door with a working window regulator and good glass if you need/want it. And some other random ZJ parts laying around from my old one.

I will definitely take the regulator for sure. Just let me know what you have for random parts...I'm pretty sure I'll need them at some point. I'll be going to the M&G btw.

Front or rear? I have both. Glass too or no?

I also have grey 96+ ZJ door cards, door switches, dash computer, a buch of factory control arms, rear driveshaft, and a crossmember somewhere.

The one that's needed asap is the front regulator on the passenger side. The only bad glass on it is the windshield which I'll have fixed in a week or so. I might be interested in the dash computer since the one in there now keeps insisting that a rear light is out even though they all work fine. Just let me know what you want for those. And if you really don't need the others, I'll snag some up as spares.

            Update on this today:
Transmission mount decided to kill itself, so a new one was installed today. Before, the shifting was a bit rough, but now shifts very smoothly. Also replaced the battery terminals, and now the voltage is right where it should be. Next up: The front window tracks

Investigating the windows revealed that a plastic piece completely fell apart, so looks like the regulator will need to be swapped out. But, I did manage to make progress on the outside:

Not perfect, but it's no longer faded white.

Windshield is being replaced on Thursday, and FINALLY got the second set of wheels and tires from the previous owner. One needs to be plugged, but once that's done....I'll have wheels for the 31's for the XJ

A very shitty update: Went to Town Fail Tire this morning to have the bad tire plugged up. Get a call 5 min after I leave saying the tire cannot be fixed. Reason why is when the previous owner had them on and picked up the nail, he drove on it for so long that the nail destroyed the sidewall from the inside.

So instead of a $4 fix.....I'll have to replace the tire. Thankfully I found one down the road for $40. Much better than the exact match for $159

Good news and bad news: New windshield is in and is perfect. Also, replacement tire is mounted and the set is ready to go on.

Bad news? I spent so much this week on this thing that it's likely I'll miss the M&G

Update: The only upside of this weekend was finally getting the other set of wheels on the ZJ. Pictures will be up tomorrow. Now I finally have the set of wheels for the XJ for the 31's.

Painting also was finished. Too hungry to go outside again to take pics. Fat kid loves food.

Agenda for today consists of brakes, tune-up, installing speakers where there were missing speakers, and attempting the window regulator.

Update: All is well......besides the passenger window, again. This time, the regulator I installed is fine...BUT....the glass snapped off at one of the bolts that mounts to the regulator. So behold......Next project.

Unexpected surprise: Tested out the "Non-functional" 4WD during the second snowfall last week.....and behold, it works flawlessly.
