Nice jeep but.. didn't that have 3.55's? I would go 4.56's or atleast 4.10's before a locker

Yeah 3.55's. I really just rather get the added traction of the locker and be gentle on it then wait around to do gears and then a locker. Its gotten to the point where I don't even have an interest in wheeling unlocked any more.

I also use this thing to just cruise around 97% of the time, and I am liking being able to cruise at 70 around 2.3k rpms. Not sure I want to be doing 100 mile trips sitting at 3500 with this old 4.0.

Fair enough but.. The 4.0 likes the R's more than a the load.

4.0 torque band is in the higher rpm range.

                      Pulled this from wikipedia. The max torque is shockingly high for this year;Output: 1987-90: 177 hp (132 kW) at 4500 rpm with 224 lb·ft (304 N·m) at 2500 rpm. 1991-95: 190 hp (142 kW) at 4750 rpm with 225 lb·ft (305 N·m) at 4000 rpm. 1996-01: 190 hp (142 kW) at 4600 rpm with 225 lb·ft (305 N·m) at 3000 rpm. 2001-06: 190 hp (142 kW) at 4600 rpm with 235 lb·ft (319 N·m) at 3200 rpm. [24]

I actually have tons of power left when I cruise at 70. I barely need to stay on the throttle.

Tell me about it. I was just looking to hide the rust but after the first coat I was astonished. Its just flat black rustoleum from the automotive paint section at home depot.
