A 1998 Grand came into my possession for a price I couldn't refuse, and upon going to pick it up (initially for parts for the '96 I already had) I discovered it was the exact same color as my current ZJ, but with body-colored trim instead of the gray plastic. It's a Laredo with 217xxx, 42RE, 242 (shifts better than the 96 and the t-case is solid) and the usual ZJ combo of LP30/35. After driving it home, I decided to keep the 98 instead... the sunroof, power leather interior, and separate opening hatch glass sold me, that and it drove better

The obligatory pics because yes, it happened:

With everything else (98 is second in line from left)

98 on left, 96 on right:

After sanding/priming/painting the chrome grill because it was flaking real bad:

Plans so far are a budget boost, some bigger tires, move the head unit, gas tank skid, t-case skid and hitch from the 96, and maybe look into some options at replacing the D35... It's not going to be a hardcore wheeler so it's not on the top of the list, but if something happens to fall into my lap as it were, then I'll consider it.

Once the title/registration is sorted out, I'll park the 96 and you're good to come pull whatever, I'll chill some brews and we'll tear apart some cooling system stuff.

Fuck that, find me some owner with big tits and I'll be cute and slow the rest of my life.

This isn't my wheeling rig, so I'm not surprised.

I think that since they're a few models old now, the aftermarket has had time to build up enough parts to make them extremely capable. It's mainly going to be a DD so it's not going to have anything extreme, but it rides nice and it's comfortable as fawk.
