  • GreenMJ Comanche Build

I dug up some pics of my Comanche as I built it to show how this junk came to be. I didn't take any pics when I first got it, but it was pretty beat. Anyways, I started with a 90k 91 Comanche for $600. The body on the truck was shot and needed some help. It got doors and some patches here and there, a quick shot of paint, a 4.5 lift, 33's and I drove it like that for awhile. After finding some frame rot though, I decided to pull it apart again and go through the truck once more ( a great way to waste time and money )

    Pulled the bed off...

Frame rot, this was the good side.....

Started fixing the rot, and found more spots on the truck....

At this point, decided that my bed wasnt worth fixing, so a searched for another one and found this at a local yard. It was off a 2wd so it was pretty solid.....

    More wasted time.....

And of course the floors were rotted. What jeep isnt?

Once I had it inside I started digging deeper and deeper into making it look decent, which was pointless because it will end up in the woods eventually. Did more welding on the frame, and mounted the gas tank......

Not too long after that, I started on the bed. It got new metal on some of the lower spots and the underside was heavily coated with POR-15. I also decided to try my hand at painting and made my own paint booth. Shooting primer....

The cab got shot w/ primer and the frame got POR-15'd. Around this time, I put in a new steering box, new fuel lines, brake lines and I got rid of the stupid proportioning valve. I also decided I needed to upgrade my rear axle, but that didnt happen for awhile....

Then came paint...I sprayed the front of the bed 1st and went from there. I had a friend help with the painting process, but neither of us had done this before. Honestly, it came out fine without much experience.

HAHA, Just remembered, you drove this thing!

The truck got stripped down piece by piece for painting. More shots of my non EPA compliant paint booth....

Sprayed the cab...The truck sat outside like this for 3 or 4 months. I kinda lost steam on this and concentrated on another project. You can see my new free Pro-Comps in these pics

Noticed that the frame was cracked at the steering box, welded a plate in.

put a plate on the bottom. and a brace on the inside.

brace way more than you think you need to do there

                          trust!!!

times a millon thousand hundred.... I broke my unirail there and did a small plate after drilling the cracks and one run later it was beyond what I felt like fixing.

I'd recommend doing something like this on the inside
