no i dont know the build dates, and yeah they are pretty much just 2000+, but theres a noticable difference between the old and new style if youre looking at a 99 model

What makes the 2000 model significantly better and would it be worthwhile to put one on my '97?

well for one the 2000 n up flows almost twice the cfm then the older ones + it has equal length runners, they did this to put the power when they added more emissions on the newer models....
