well lots of things to answer here haha.
i do drive it like an old man and shift it very easily. i knew this trans was on it's way out for awhile now, it just finally went. i found an 07 wrx trans for $1400 which is stronger than my 02. take my brand new clutch and flywheel, install, good to go.
everything that has broken on this thing has been 100% normal maintenance OR pure foolishness from the previous owner. i just did a wheel bearing, clutch and flywheel because i had a chattering race clutch in it, timing belt because i have 127k miles and because the previous owner didn't loctite the fucking bolt lol. and now the trans, which blew due to having a race clutch in it.
none of which were due to the fact this car is modded btw. if this was a civic i would prob be doing the same maintenance to it.
anyway, i want awd for winter and mountains which i plan on doing a lot of winter driving this year. the jeep is lifted and is only a weekend toy. honestly i'm on the fence about selling it too since i've only wheeled it 1 time since may.
once i put a trans in it, this car will be a perfect DD again... i'm just not sure i want to have a fast car anymore, it gets expensive
thanks for the answers everyoneI drive a Datsun

After reading that Alex, I'm going to switch my position.
I am actually going to vote you keep it, as long as you think it won't need any other work after a new transmission. (Excluding normal maint)
Also as long as the insurance isn't raping you, but it'd be much cheaper for you at 26 than myself at 21.
I say keep it if you think it'll be the last big thing to go for a while. The insurance isn't killing you, and you're not beating the piss out of the car.
I say sell it if you think this is just the beginning of the end, and it's going to be constant small breaks from now until you retire it, if the normal cost of owning it/driving it is super high.Is it egg nog season yet?

ahem. I'll let these quotes from your original "selling my jeep, bought a new car thread", do all the talking.

ps what's with the STI badge... poser.Originally posted by Burton58 View Postyes the trans is weak, i've already owned one of these. its not getting raced or modded any more than it is.

also I think there's more to running a newer tranny in the bug eyes. My friend had a similar problem and bought a newer tranny like that and it ended up not being direct bolt in. For One I'm fairly sure that you need a different style axle/cv/whatever you wanna call it. On your car I think the splines stay in the tranny and on the newer ones the splines are on the shaft. Might be the other way around though.Last edited by wannabejeep; 08-04-2010, 05:54 PM.1993 XJ sport 3.5" rustys 33" MTZ's armored.
