You live in New Jersey. Laws differ from state to state at what is to be considered a 'dangerous weapon'. As long as the cutting surface is no longer than four fingers wide, then you shouldn't have a problem, but once again, New Jersey and New York are boarderline communist states and they have rediculous laws regarding guns as well as knives.

Anyone play with butterfly knives? I usually bring one on the ship with me to pass the time...and then get schooled by a Ukrainian guy with it

To me, butterfly knives lost their essence in middle school. I always found them to be for those 50's vintage tough guys who are all show with their greasy hair and leather jackets.

Im not gonna disagree on gun laws but NY knife laws arent really strict at all or are full of holes, if you go and read the actual laws I technically could have carried a knife in my high school as long as the blade was under 3 inches.

And even automatic opening knives are actually illegal if you intend to use it for fishing.

I have a knife on me just about 24 hours a day and have never got any sort of hassle.

Or my Benchmade, it's probably the most solid feeling and sturdiest folding knife i've ever had. I wasnt sure I was going to like the slider lock on it at first but it's my favorite knife. And if oil it with a little bit of lanolin now and again it opens just as fast as any of the spring ones.

I have about a dozen other knives too but I dont use them very much. But the only company who I really didn't like was Boker, I had one of their folding knives and it felt really flimsy and was all around not that nice, the blade was all loose and floppy and it chipped really easy. I use it for opening bottles and stuff now, but I have one of their fixed blades and it's not bad though.

Also, why do you want serrated, I hate having serrated blades, they are a bitch to sharpen and the serrations dont even do anything unless all you do is cut rope all day.

If I were to make a recomendation however I would say Kershaw, never seen a bad Kershaw knife and they are more reasonbly priced than Benchmades etc...
how much was that benchmade.... like $250???

my benchmade was $150 from the local guy but you can price them cheaper on line.

I really like that knife might have to give it a look.

I actually got all the guys in my wedding party benchmade knives with there initials etched into them as a wedding present. I got a kegerator in return and it is working really good right now on like my 5th beer.

But think of it this way I've carried my benchmade daily for 10 years still smooth no play.

I cannot compare too many knives cannot afford a bunch of different ones but I've had had my share of gerbers kersaws winchester buck once you get a nice knife those all became my garage knives.

I carried a small knife in high school that is what the 5th pocket on jeans are made for.
I actually was asked by a teacher to empty my pockets didn't find it.

the best place to put a pocket knife is in the waist band directly above the first belt loop the belt hides the clip and the feel of something hard. Fits nice at an angle with your hips so it fits when you bend you legs. I have never been picket up by a pat down. I always forget I have a knife walking into a show or something.
