99 5-speed Miata, 113k, already had a Flyin' Miata bushing/swaybar kit and some Bridgeport-tastic rims and shift knob on it. My dad and I wanted to get back into autocross but didn't want to nuke the Speed6 or the RX-8, so we found a reasonably cheap Miata and made plans for it.

    Overall plans:
    • Get rid of the fagle-rific shift knob and replace it with something normal
    • Flyin' Miata stage 2 coilovers and stiffeners
    • Tiyas
    • Flyin' Miata roll cage
    • MazdaSpeed head, intake, possibly entire 2.3 swap?
    • Some form of aero kit, because it looks like a bug right now

I haven't been able to get rid of the shit-eating grin, I've been driving it all day and the thing is WICKED fun to drive. It steers like a go-kart

Before I came around, my parents autocrossed with the Connecticut Corvette Club (somewhere there's a trophy they put both my mom's name and mine because she was nine months) and there's apparently one happening soon at the Stratford tank plant. They used to autocross in a school parking lot across from ESPN's satellite farm (with a permit) but that stopped for some reason.

As to tires- I'd love to run Kumho Ecstas. I had them on my Talon TSi before I sold it, but I'm open to different options. May get a second set of rims and run Hoosiers on 'cross days

hate to be a hater here...... but mazda miatas are the middle age crisis cars for 40 year old male bank tellers with extremely feminine tendancies.

Sooooo be sure to wear a real "out there" pair of sunglasses the next time u go for a spin in that piece of queer.
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

Right. This is why some of the most bad-ass SCCA autocross and road course cars are Miatas. I'd tell you to get a Jeep with a frame, but that'd be hypocritical of me

                  for the non haters...

                  do want.

                    RX-7.... sweet, RX-8..... even sweeter.

Miata..... gay as shit, but i'm just sayin.

And when you think about the fact that i am plating front to rear, the way i'm doing it, the crossmembers i'm adding underneath. My jeep will basically have a frame, with a unibody hidden underneath.

Already have a perfectly good RX-8. Why would I want to trash that autocrossing?

You must not pay attention to autocross or road rally cars and how they're built, or even what they are.

                            you're right.

i live in a world where horsepower and torque come from displacement and pure engine building, not forced induction methods.

A world where i still believe rear wheel drive vehicles will out perform AWD and FWD all day long, its all about the driver.

I know people that autocrossed daily drivers, you don't trash the car. In fact in the few autocross events i have been to, i have not seen one person break. but ohhh well what do i know, i'm just a dumb rock crawlin, NASCAR loving, muscle car hard on son of a bitch that would know nothing about the finite details of precision automotive engineering that goes into a car like that.
