Here is the story:
Way back before the dawn of time.....
Nah!
Right after my deployment, I was cashing my checks at my local bank, nothing exciting there. One day While running errands, I decided to cash my check at another bank since it was right in the middle of where I doing my errands. There was a really cute girl there(Nica), but I couldn't get involved with her because I was already married and had a girlfriend at the time (Okay, I wasn't such a good person at the time, but I've calmed down). Anyhow, I started cashing my checks at this other bank from then on out just to get to look at a girl that was completely out of my league. I never once thought anything would come of it, but she was pleasant to look at and talk to. We sort-of got to know each other over a few months of my stopping by the bank to cash my checks. I mentioned that I was going to take my son to see some fireworks one night and Nica "showed up". We hung out (as friends) at Dunkin Donuts for a few hours, and I couldn't believe how compatible we were (this was the first time we actually "talked"), but we were both taken still (she had a BF as well). A week or so later, her shitty boyfriend broke-up with her, and she told me that I had better drop the girlfriend if I wanted anything to come of us, and I did (the very next day). We hung out a lot after that before we wound up dating but D&D is significant because it was one of the first times we really started getting to know each other.
I have always wanted to put the ring in food, or drink, and Nica knew that for a long time.
Flash forward to today: So it's been about a week and half since the divorce was finalized, and I kept telling her I wouldn't propose till I was divorced (made sense to me). This morning she started freaking out about not having time before my deployment to set up a wedding, and why I hadn't asked her yet. I told her not to worry about it, and to leave the subject alone. I said the more she expected it, and bugged me about it, the less likely I was to ask. She had no clue that I have been carrying the ring around for a couple days, trying to find the perfect time, that she wouldn't be expecting it.
That time actually came today! We were running some errands, and were planning on eating at the local chinese buffet, when her friend asked her to meet up and talk for a few at Dunkin (the very same one mentioned above). So we met, got coffee, ate some food, and talked for about an hour. The whole time, I was trying to see if she would go to the bathroom so I could put the ring in her coffee... I found a hair in my bagel (I ate the rest anyhow), and that got us talking about "things in you food" which turned out to be a great topic! It was looking like we were going to leave soon and Nica still didn't go to the bathroom, so I adapted my strategy. I asked Nica if she minded splitting a donut with me, she said no. I then asked if jelly was good, she said "sure". I got it along with two munchkins, and grabbed some napkins. While at the napkin station, I put the ring in the jelly-hole with the help of a coffee stirrer (Jelly-hole heheh). when I got back to the table, I grabbed the two munkins and told her to give me the rest of the donut when she was done with her half. 2 bites into it, she complained that there was something hard in her donut. She was concerned about what it could be since we had that conversation like 10 minutes before about strange stuff in your food. Her friend encouraged her to find out what it was (the friend had no clue either), and Nica pulled out a jelly covered ring! It really was the last thing she expected, WIN!Last edited by bucketokarma; 03-03-2009, 11:05 PM.Shane "The Bag" Carlson
