  • I am Completely Devastated.

I JUST found this out this morning, thought it happened yesterday.

Marlin Firearms closing, 265 laid off
North Haven plant closing in next 18 months

North Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - Employees at Marlin Firearms in North Haven just got word late Thursday afternoon that they will be losing their jobs in the next 18 months.

265 people will be losing their jobs. The layoff will begin in May and the plant will be closed by June of 2011. The company tells News Channel 8 that they are moving the work out of state.

Employees we spoke with say they feel blindsided.

"We had a meeting at 3:30pm. They gonna phase us out," said one employee who has worked at Marlin for 19 years.

Founded by John Marlin in New Haven in 1870, Marlin Firearms is now headquartered in Madison, North Carolina. In 2007, Marlin was sold to the Remington Arms Company.

The North Haven plant manufactures a variety of rifles

This may not mean much to others, but to me it's more of a sign of the times. CT has driven away businesses and manufacturers for years because of extremely high costs to operate here. I have no idea where they will go and I am completely devastated to even think that they will become a Brand Name like Winchester and be made in Japan.

I knew bad things were on the Horizon when Marlin was purchased by a Capitol Management Group from South Carolina and they teamed up with Remington. I knew the XL7 and the poor quality control was of the doing of people trying to put more money in their pocket rather then put out a quality firearm like Marlin has been for the past 100 years.

I did take pride that my favorite Firearm Manufacturer was right here in CT and I always looked to see the plant whenever I went on I91.

I am shocked and appalled, distraught and confused. Today is a sad day for me. Sorry for my tears.

Wow, thats crazy! I find it crazy that a lot of gun companys where founded in the Greater CT area, but 150 years later they are leaving its really not cool.

Its happening everywhere and its terrifying. There's almost no where to work anymore where your safe.

UTC (hamilton, pratt, otis, carrier, kidde) just released an article saying their intentions were to do business anywhere but the state of CT as they move forward. UTC employs about 15,000 people in CT.

Connecticut and Manufacturing don't mix unfortunately...

I work for a plastic manufacturing company in Stamford... No idea how the fuck we are still here making this stuff with such high operating costs.

                            Sounds like a plan.

It's been the talk of the town all day today, customers reminding me that Marlin is going the way of the Dodo.
