I don't really like the autos quite frankly neither does my father and he's a certified xray welder, however this is just an opinion....

why spend around $200 for a auto darkening when you could spend half that and just flip the mask up and down by yourself

I personally like them, I think it makes getting the bead started that much easier because your not blind for that first half second..Also with a coupon for harbor frieght out of any 4-wheel mag you can get one for $34

I auto dark mask I TIG weld a lot nice to see where everything is before you start.

The flip down is cheaper and has a larger screen.

I have both some times a bar or something will get in the way of the sensor and it will never darken then I use the normal helmet.

Definitely nice fore new welders to see everything before welding.

i had an auto darkening one before, i forgot the brand but it was defective an it would turn dark like a half to a full second after i started welding, an even sometimes it would take like one to two seconds. after useing it for awhile i had the worst flash burn an my eyes hurt like fawk for like a day. sence then i just went back to useing regular ones.

Just a heads up since you're big into the video business, saw on extreme 4x4 that they can't use auto ones cause the lights set them off to easily.

When you come over Friday I'll let you try my auto-darkening and my flip down to see which one you like better. I love the auto darkening especially crawling under a car thats too low to flip down the mask once your under there. It just makes it a lot easier to get good clean starts.
