I highly doubt that. A wave coming from the middle of the ocean that is expected to take out parts of Hawaii, is DEFINITELY noticeable in open sea

I was watching CNN, and they said when the wave passed some buoy in the pacific, the water level dropped 27 feet before the wave. so that would be noticeable i assume

This is probably false. When a tsunami is at sea it's only inches high and barely noticeable. It's not until it gets into shallow water that it turns into a huge wave. In fact the best thing to do if you know a tsunami is coming is to get in a boat and head for deep water.

Edit: Just noticed everybody else already said this, gotta learn to read page 2 before I post.

Note that in real life a tsunami is very different than a rogue wave or storm waves, and you should never trust hollywood or the news media for reliable information about natural phenomenon.

Edit edit: Also in mid-ocean the water doesn't drop as a tsunami passes, it goes up. I looked up the numbers from the 2004 tsunami and while it was 35 feet high when it hit land it was only 2 feet high in open ocean.

Some dude just pranked CNN on air.

I'm watching the live stream online and they brought some guy on the air to talk about what he was seeing from wherever he was. He started talking about tsunami stuff and then said something about somebody's mom being a cunt. The newscaster guy just kept talking like nothing happened and then went back to the guy on the phone who said "Did you hear me? I said blah blah's mom is a cunt." (I didn't catch the name he said).

So now CNN is saying that 2 waves already hit and nobody even noticed. They were only a few inches high. The only way they could tell is that a reef got covered up and then got uncovered again.
