  • External hard drive question

I have an old computer and I was wondering if I could take out the hard drive and use it as an external hard drive for my laptop. If so, what do I need to do?

    how old is old?

anyway, you can buy external HD enclosures that accept an internal HD...then u just plug it in to your new comp via firewire or USB...simple stuff, u just have to get an enclosure setup for the HD youre taking out

right how old is old. need to identify the type of old drive, IDE or Sata. Then buy the appropriate drive enclosure. With todays prices the enclosure might cost more then a cheap external hard drive.

is one of the cords going into the back of it a big flat ribbon? aka IDE?

although it could be round too...

is the cords end wide and flat?

The cord is wide and flat...ribbon like. Not sure what the ends look like though. It is not in front of me.
