Just got done watching the whole opening ceremonies. I thought they did a great job. They spent 40 million dollars they said on it.

It was awful watching the country of Georgia march in. They looked so devastated and got a standing ovation. It's so horrible that someone so young died doing what they love before they could really ever experience it.

I watched the crash on leaktube as it was pulled off youtube...NBC aired it 3 times just for ratings...that was a sad way to start the games

I read that the track is problematic and being investigated as many others have crashed too. I saw a still photo of where he lost it in the apex of the turn as being too high and the track bank drops rather early imho if you look at it.

I think the engineers of this track will be on the hot seat for this one. I mean drop the embankment and then put steel columns on the edge of the track?

Looks like a few too many cases of ICE Brew and take of eh tude for the R&D department. I would boil those french canucks for this track...as I think they really pushed it as far as speed. The Canadians trained a lot on this track and it is said they are the only ones prepared. That will improve ratings for sure. I'd be surprised if Georgia competes in the games

It shouldn't be surprising that someone dies in a sport where you fly down an ice covered track with only a helmet as protection at over 80 mph. People are murdered every day and don't get this much air time.

Also, Vancouver is in British Columbia, not Quebec, so I fail to see the relevance of the French Canadian reference.

NBC kept showing the death video over and over... I was surprised. ESPN was just showing snap shot pics.

If it was an American that had died i doubt we'd be seeing clips of it all over the tv like this one. I bet there would be lawsuits if there was.

Rarely is $$ millions spent on such an event and to say air time was justified of a splattering for what? Properly placed poles for pole dancing? Pardon me if your geological reference specifically negates using french...but have a listen to the stiff lipped bilingual recount of the event hmmmmmmm

I seem to recall another big budget bloodfest (aka war) without much for ratings and oohh ya no french were there either. Perhaps when you invent a bodybag cam I'll shut up...til then I'll take your and butter my croissants locally in the gold medal filled USA...

Do u need to tighten that helmet strap buddy even though hockey night ain't tonight?
