i think i still have a late-model (92+) gas tank somewhere in the garage/storage. it allows you to swap to a "straight through" between the gas tanks rather than out around the side.

maybe next time the SiS crew comes to Rausch i can lug it up there if you want it. tank was like $50 and the new strap was $80 or so. but at this point toss me $75 and they are both yours.
thats possible but it was also the fact that they originally put in factory gaskets that couldnt handle the heat/cool difference between teh iron block and the aluminum heads. the felpro gaskets for this engine are build to correct the problem. but maybe i could throw in some magnas for fun

and what do you mean about the tank... so that the fill door is where the license plate goes like it was on my camaro?

the fuel tanks on the early mn12 chassis was a one-piece tank the the exhaust was routed from the middle through the resonator then out around the tank, back to the dual mufflers. very inefficient.

in '92 they changed to a "saddle tank" design which allowed the exhaust to be routed down the center of the car for better air flow out the back and better angles out of the resonator and then into the mufflers.

i was going to do the swap on my '90, but just never got around to it. found the tank when cleaning the garage a year or two ago

well, seeing as i got rid of my SC back in 2003 and i *still* have the spare tank, i doubt it's going anywhere any time soon.

just some food for thought, if you get it running, bring it down to the Carlisle All Ford Nationals show... show the car, and then come up the hill and hang out with the Rausch Crew at the off-road demo area Carlisle is about another hour past the park down I-81.

                        UPDATE

doesnt need a head gasket, maybe a new thermostat but hopefully not, i think its stuck open and is overcooling. got her running on all cylinders though(for the most part). still running a little rough but shes a strong little beast. took her for a few pulls up and down the street tonight after popping a new battery in. definately gonna make for a good ride... she idles high too... a little above 2000rpm. any ideas?

I had a 92 white with leather. Chipped, dual exhaust and underdrive pully. The ex-husband got it and destroyed it. Fun car. Good luck with her.

                              ANOTHER UPDATE

thermostat isnt a problem either, i seem to be having very good luck with this car. just did a full tuneup this afternoon thanks to the assistance of justin and our friend cesar. spark plugs, wireset, fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve, and an oil change. might try for some new o2s down the road. runs like a champ. now i just need tires and to pay it off and its on the road hopefully before the meet and greet. this car is sick. as soon as it hits boost it hops a bit and just breaks the tires loose, i cant wait to get this thing officially on the road.

OMG, that about made me cry. We had one of those but it was I think a 94. It was dark blue and I freakin' loved that car.
