  • Looking at a new truck

I'm looking at selling my XJ for a pick up. I've "made due" with the XJ for a while but its is just more practical for me to have the bed of the truck to use, and I know the rest of my family will be able to use it as well. Plus with work the way it is right now I don't have the time to fix wheeling breakage, not like I ever truly went on any runs anyways.

I can't afford new, I'm looking at used "new style" picks up. I don't have a brand preferance but I really like the GMC and Chevy models. Fords aren't out of the question but I really dis-like the looks of the Dodge pick up. I realize this is pretty open ended so try not to crucify me too much. But is there anything to look for on an 02-06 Chevy full size pick up? Color and packages don't really matter all that much to me as long as it is 4x4 and full size since I will plow and tow with it. Most I've seen are between 60-100k miles. Think this is too high to start at?

What I mean is like if I were to buy a new XJ I know exactly what to look for as far as rust, worn out parts, axle and transfer case combos, trim packages, so on. I really know nothing about new trucks because I've been out of the "new car" thing for such a long time. Any one own one or have any input on the matter?

I would love to get an 02-06 chevy with a 4.8 or 5.3 V8 as a daily driver. However, the 4.3 V6 is not a bad motor and can make some decent power. They are great trucks especially if you throw a chip, intake, and exhaust on them. Thats what I want for my DD next. I have nothing but praise for those trucks

dont bother getting a truck with the 4.3L, its a good motor but it gets the same if not worst gas mileage then the 4.8L or 5.3L. It's just to small of a motor to haul so much weight. It has to work hard. This is from experience. My 99 silverado has the 4.3L. epa combined mileage is only 16mpg as well... Im lucky if I see 16 on the highway..

I can't afford a new one and the few diesels I found in the area aren't what I'm looking for as far as years and mileage. Most are just too dam expensive for me.
