Excellent reads for all the states. They list the states from the freest to the least free and they list reason why they are ranked that way and way to make the state freer.

Connecticut sucks, but it's not like we didn't already know that.

That's why they are so free, there is no real desire to live in any of those states so they lure people in with economic and social freedoms. On the other end of the spectrum you have California which is a place everyone would want to live because of the climate, yet it's practically a communist state.

I would take any of the top 5 before I would live in California. Been there, done that and wouldn't want to live in it.
