Just looked at the pic over on Cherokee forum, how many miles are you from your house?
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

I have discs on my 44 though. Has a different retainer ring. I need to get a whole new bearing pressed on or get it towed home.

          Can anyone tow?

Judging by that picture is my bearing totally shot?

cant just hit it back on best you can then tighten up all 4 bolts and drive home? blow fluid out and sound bad i bet but you can get home. guy prior to me did that, why one of the extra shafts isn't that good

Yup, if it where mine I'd seal it up as good as I could bolt it back in and send it.
What's the worst that happens..... You toast the bearing that's already screwed???.....

At minimum you could get it to a better place that's not as sketchy.

I don't see why you just didn't drive it home.? Can't really cause to much more damage than you already have and all the fluid won't leak out.

Nope. I'm alive. Made a shanty town in a post office parking lot and camped it out. Some guy woke me up this morning and told me he might have what I was looking for. He drove me 10 miles into the middle of nowhere to his house. He forgot to mention it was a 134 acre junkyard.

Cars fucking everywhere. Jeeps fucking everywhere. Axles fucking everywhere. He starts lifting up older XJs and lets me check out the rear ends.

NO D44s out of 100 jeeps. Badass place though. Dude even had a built up XJ on 48s.

Ended up pulling the disc backing plate off, the rotor, hanging the caliper and hammering the fuck out of the axle shaft. Got it on far enough for my nuts to catch and impacted them on. (On board air win). No play at all in the shaft. Gooped it up with rtv and let it set.

Drove it 80 miles straight home. Bearing fucking screaming. Sounded like frank Sinatra was jamming out under the jeep.

Riding in my friends tdi back up to Vermont now.

                      Thanks again for the assistance.

Does anyone have some D44 shafts for sale?
