the only thing i can't agree with is how you don't see the suv in them. the bodys are the same shape as an suv just miniaturized
But that's just because the proportionality. I could take a 97 ford Taurus wagon. Put it in a demo derby. And after I win, it would have a suv/ cross over look to it.
Miniature SUV. Shortened wagon. Same thing I gueas
I edited my post to see that standpoint.
When I think SUV I think bigger and truck like. A miniature SUV to me is an Xj.
I see a wagon as a car. And I think a crossover is just a car
I see the glass half empty
You see the glass half full
For arguments sake, forget I said it dosent look like an SUV. Hahahaha
I see crossovers as a shorter wagon. I don't know how they can be consider SUV -ish. (Maybe because of their proportionality)
And to a lot of people, wagons are large and not really needed. When's the last time you saw a old Volvo station packed to the max other than the local recyclable can collector.
Not sticking up for the new crossover fad but for a lot of people it's probably a better choice than a boat going down the road.
Wouldn't a shorter wagon be a hatchback? Audi A3 vs A4 avant.
I wouldn't consider wagons boats, maybe this was:
but certainly not this:
I just don't understand why someone would purchase a vehicle that combines the poor suv qualities (comparably bad gas mileage, comparably bad ride and handling) with the poor car qualities (limited cargo capacity, can only be on pavement).

to guys like us its useless i believe. but for lots of american suburbia people theyre great. the "one car for all" idea it will haul kids and groceries like a minivan, but get decent mileage at the same time. and its got AWD so most if not any condition on the pavement can be conquered as long as the snow/whatever isnt to the bumper. i see how they have taken the market for cars theyre kind of sensible and kind of senseless at the same time, perfect for america. seeing as how the vast majority of the US no longer makes much sense.
The Honda Crossturd and some of the BMWs seem to be the worst as far as weird proportions go. And then there's Hyundai/Kia with their weird front ends.
The idea of a crossover takes the idea of "compromising" to the extreme. SUVs with a bunch of new tech (Grand Cherokee) aren't the problem, but I'll take a real wagon over a lifted, smushed wagon. More interior space and better handling.
I do like the XV Crosstrek thingy. I don't really consider it a "crossover," its basically just a tall hatchback/wagon. Not really anything out of the ordinary for Subaru, and they kind of needed something to fill that spot now that the Outback Sport is dead, and the regular Outback is so huge.
I may be biased since my mom has the regular Impreza. Hard to argue with 36mpg highway and AWD though. It's not powerful at all, but it's actually fun to drive. Better steering feel than any of my VWs had.
