Need some advice on purchasing a car

thinking about getting a fun commuter car (i drive 70 miles a day) and saving truck duties to dirtbikes and dump trips.

Im in the market for a somewhat practical, room for 2 people dog and camping gear, decent gas millage and sporty car

first choice is a new VW GTI 4-door. its roomy and sporty and still gets 31mpg highway. Has a great interior, looks nice, BUT the VW reliability thing is kinda scaring me.

was also looking at 5 door Subaru WRX. its sporty, awd. Though it doesn't have as nice of interior /options and doesn't get as good of gas mileage as the VW

anyone have input on these 2 choices or any other cars i should look at?

I personally like the GTI, but have the same concerns on reliability. The nice thing is that VW now has the no-charge maintenance but i think overall they have become more reliable. My cousin's friend works at the dealership as a service manager and said he would never own one, but I just ran into at the grocery store driving his new 4-door so i think thats a good sign.

My friend loved his tiguan and had no problems with the reliability, but had a problem with the front-end eating a telephone pole....

Whats your price range? You could grab a certified 5-series wagon for like nothing (relative to their new price).

I can load this beast with all the camping gear you will ever need plus haul a 12 ft kayak on the roof. I get 30mpg and she runs perfectly. If you can find one in good condition BUY IT.

New GTIs are kinda cool. Urabus has AWD though, big advantage IMO and well worth the MPG difference.

Mpg's along with reliability are a concern with VW's, with this in mind I would opt for a nice Subaru legacy, a Honda accord or something along those lines

With vehicles that get anywhere from mid-30s to high forties, compared to mid-20's to mid-30's, the VWs actually do have better MPG ratings...

As I said earlier, if this is gonna be your DD, "not-gonna-fuck-with-it" car, I'd still get a Subie. Take the MPG hit and enjoy the AWD in the snow.

Why not a VW Jetta TDI?

The diesel jettas are known to get like high 50s for MPGs. It might not be the prettiest car, but it gets good MPGs.

                            Dodge Dart. bang.

Or ford fusion, i like thems alots.

for what its worth i HATE vw's. only fags drive them, don't be a fag. also noting, vw's fall apart; i didn't know this until i worked in an auto parts store.
