What is worse, being in prison, or homeless?

I'd rather be homeless compared to prison any day of the week. I'm not proud of it, but I did some stupid shit when I was younger and spent an hour or two behind steel, that shit is far from fun.

Then be more specific next time with your definition of 'Homeless'. If we are comparing African homeless where they actually do have homes but no food or water, then yeah, I guess that would suck even more than being in prison. First off, you'd be in Africa of all places, so right off the bat you're in a horrible spot. STOP BEING SO VAGUE.

I'm sure a prison in Africa is a nice gig comparatively, but lets face it, both equally suck so this entire conversation is a fucking lawl-fest and a half. You don't aspire to be a trendy hobo, oh well, more ham sammiches for me...I'll be occupying the hand cart on my way down south to the ol' MISSISSIP.

Been there, done that, been legit homeless for a year. Lived in for sale vehicles, an abandoned train caboose, in the rafters of a town pavilion. I have eaten food out of a McDonalds dumpster, bathed in the town pool in the summer, and throughout winter, baby-wipes I shoplifted. I've been beaten (a few times), and even shot at for breaking into somebody's camper. Hell, I was even pissed on by a group of teenagers that thought it would be a fun way to wake me up so they could ridicule me for being a bum.
On the flip-side though, I've met some interesting people. I've gone to many places and have seen/done quite a few very interesting things, with nothing holding you back, you can go just about wherever you desire.

All in all though, I would rather go back to that because of the freedoms you have when you have NOTHING. "Freedom's just another word for nothin left to lose....". It's true, and you can go anywhere and pretty much live by your own rules, just so long you don't get picked up by the police. I have spent the night in a cell once or twice, either for warmth, or because I got in legit trouble. I would rather not go back to a cell.

For those of you that think being homeless is so terrible, give me a break! Being homeless is something YOU CAN RECOVER FROM. You can still do well for yourself with not too much trouble (less than someone with a felony), and the lifestyle DOES allow more freedom than prison since you have nothing to tie you down, unlike a prison that's sole purpose is to keep you from your freedoms.
It was difficult to be sure, and no I didn't garner the respect I would have if I had a duplex, an Audi, and a nice attire, but I learned SO MUCH about how terrible people can be, as well as how compassionate a few people can be. I learned how to develop a tougher skin, about different places, myself, and the world at large. Since I came out of it relatively unscathed, I wouldn't trade it for the world, but at the time, I would have given anything for a real bed, a hot dinner, and a set of parents that loved me.

One thing is certain though, I'm glad I picked myself up, and got out of it. If you're ever going to be forced into a situation like that, it's better off when you're young and you still have the energy to tolerate/handle it. Old homeless people are just too tired to live that way anymore. I could if I had to, but for now, no thanks to either choice.

It depends on what you value in life, liberty and freedom, or being kept safe and alive?
that's what it boils down to really, and prison cannot guarantee your safety.

I have always been of the "Give me liberty or give me death" mindset, so..... The choice is obvious for me.

Oh well, even in the village of "SHITHOLE Africa", I would rather be homeless than in their prison, maybe even than in our prisons. At least in shithole africa, I have the chance to steal a gun, I know I cannot be taxed, I'll either be hunting or get hunted.... I'll take my chances and opt for "legit homeless" even in Africa, thank you.
