$200 a month for all the wonders of living with my parents oh and it goes down to 100 a month for when I'm at sea...aka not living there. They call it "shit storage rental fee". It goes up if I leave and my stuff is in my Dads way, at that point its called "ass hole tax"

Time to move out but I'm not paying a morgage on something I use 6 months out of the year.

Mortgage around $1600 with tax and insurance.
Then probably around the same for everyone else for bills.

But owning your own house cost a lot for upkeep.

So you expected me to put out more money a month to have you live a better life in my house for free? Man, that makes sense. What was I thinking.

I own a 2 family house and live on the top floor and rent out the bottom, the bottom is a single large bedroom, good size bathroom, living room, kitchen, and a front foyer. i charge $750 a month and that only includes water. Its a little on the higher side but that keeps all the pieces of shit out of my place. Id prob lower it if it was someone I knew and was not a piece of shit haha.

saving for a down payment on a house.

buyer's market is pretty good right now, cause the cost of homes are way down. And as long as your credit is good, and you have a solid job, you can most likey get a loan

That being said, it never made much sense to me to basically throw money away paying for rent every month, when i could be paying a mortgage and actually have that money going towards ownership of a house.
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

The market is bad for everything right now especially with interest rates. We missed the best buyers market by like 3 years

the interest rates suck, that's why the market isn't ideal.

But you can get a house that 3 years ago was 350k for around 290k-300k right now.

Home Values are low, which can be good and bad.

How are the interest rates bad? When I got approved for my mortgage, I got 4.5%. Now if I did it, it would probably be 4% or better.

My parents back in the 80's got 17%. And people say it is bad today.

                                precisely, they're still not bad.

But 3 years ago like Jon was saying, they were at all time low. like around 3%, when the bank was just giving anyone a house....

I think with the decline in value though, now is probably a pretty good time to get yourself a good deal.
