The prices end up in the same area, depending on bike and how you ride. The four strokes are just so easy to ride and require alot less skill to go fast, to maintain the average four stroke is fairly simple- change the oil and air filters every 3 rides and they will run forever. But what do you want this bike for mx, sx, enduros, or just messing around?
your doing it wrong.... My last banshee Id go 150hrs on a top end and only did the bottom end once, If its tuned right and you do standard basic maitenence on it as well as run the correct fuel/oil ratio you shouldnt have a problem...

Dude banshees are sick , But when i was racing i would be doing 4 20min + 2laps, pretty much wide open, on fast tracks like southwick, and i would be lucky if the bike would make it threw the weekend. My usual maintance on that bike on a race weekend would be to change the air filter ever 2 motos, and change the oil every 3 hours. We tryed to make the 2 stroke last and be competitive by doing a 144cc kit in it but, you still couldnt compare it to a 250 4 stroke. But my bad, i shouldnt be comparing a 125 2 stroke to a 250 2 stroke, they're a whole differant ball field. I have a 2007 kxf450 for sale if anyone is interested.

Yea it basically comes down to what you are riding and personal preference..I raced a crf250 for like have a season but I was doing 3 plus hour cross country races so the engine wouldn't last that long as maintance got exspensive...that's when I switche to cr 250s which took the abuse better over time..but I could see myself getting a nice ktm400 or 525 now since I'm not really racing..those big bore enduro based 4 stokes really are kinda change the oil and air filter kinda bikes haha..I'm tired of tearing race bikes down every week..

Picked up the 2006 RM 250 Tuesday night. Thing is pretty sick - New Tires, Excel Rims, Pro Circuit Exhaust, V-Force Reeds, Renthal Bars, Recent top end, Hour Meter, Aftermarket Suspsension and New Chain/Sprocket. My understanding is that Suzuki made some changes to the motor in 2006 based on some reviews I read comparing it to the 2005 model.

I agree with you on this, I rode mostly trails with the occasional trip to rockyhill(track). Although I used to love the low end that my KX250 had. I hated when people didn't maintane them and the end result was you had to buy a cylinder and or have it replated.

The new 4 strokes require more maintenance.. technically your supposed to adjust the valves often which no one does and then you see them beging to start like shit..
Well things may have changed because when i was riding you were probabley in still in diapers..

                    sounds nice.

2 strokes ride good if they are dialed in. if not they bog, foul plugs ect.

i ride a 450 4stroke and rode a 250 2 stroke and the difference in power delivery is amazing. I had some crazy notion that i wanted to pick up a 250 for the track and keep my 450 as a woods machine. but im afraid after riding a 450 for a year i just cant hop on 2-smoker and ride. thats just me though. If you are used to riding a smoker its still a fast bike and will keep up and rip but damn do 450 just have power EVERYWHERE

Exactly what he says, they're fun in a track/sandpit and/if the topend gets beat you'll know it because you'll get a slight rattle to the engine sound with the fouling of plugs.

I will second that. I loved my yz 250f. Bike was real fast and pretty light, was fun in the woods to!
